CHS freshman takes top honors at contest
A couple weeks ago muscians and music lovers converged in Lawrence for the 30th Annual Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship. Freshman Matthew Oliphant took top honors in the Banjo event as well as claiming the Overall Youth Title.
In 2007 Matthew took 2nd in the Banjo event along with a 1st in Youth Fiddle and claimed the Overall Youth Award as well that year.
This annual event draws fiddlers and pickers from Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri playing most stringed instruments including violins, guitars, mandolins, banjos and basses.
Matthew's older sister Cara also competed this year placing 2nd in the Open Fiddle event.
